Mourning
Aurora, Colorado (CNN) –
A tragedy just happened in Colorado, America on Friday, July 20. James E. Holmes, the 24-year-old former doctoral candidate, attacked a packed theater, opening fire on the terrified audience. The massacre caused at least 12 fatalities.
Accused of a mass shooting at the Century 16 multiplex in Aurora, Holmes made his first appearance in the courtroom on Monday. With various shades of orange hair, Holmes looked downward, and then stared straight ahead without blinking for a long period. At times, he kept up the blank stare or his eyes fluttered, squeezed tight or reopened. Also, his eyebrows arched over days of stubble, which gave his face a mournful mien. (Did he really mourn? For himself or for the victims?)
According to Holmes’ colleagues and his relatives, Holmes is “clean-cut, quiet and responsible.” Some even described Holmes as “nerdish” and “a book-smart type guy.” The image is difficult to reconcile. Holmes is full of contrasts.
In fact, the dazed-looking man dyed his hair red, dressed himself in a maroon jumpsuit over a white T-shirt, and identified himself as "the Joker." He gave an indication to authorities that shooting people was just part of the plot especially during a screening of the new Batman movie. He really played a BIG JOKE to the world!
